Transformers are too expensive to replace regularly and must be properly maintained to maximize the life of a transformer.

Monitoring the physical and chemical properties of transformer oil and the presence of certain dissolved gases can signal if there is a problem with the oil or the potential life of a transformer.

Perform & monitor these 3 tests on-site routinely to improve the life of a transformer.

  • Karl Fischer Moisturemoisture content can reduce the insulating properties of transformer oil which may result in dielectric breakdown.
  • Dissolved Gas concentrations and relative ratios of these gases can be used to diagnose certain operational problems with the transformer.
  • Dielectric test : the breakdown voltage test is used to evaluate the degree of impurity in insulating liquids due to foreign particles and water.
